The vineyards of the Clos des Vignes du Maynes were planted around 900 AD. and the wine first produced for Cluny Abbey around 910. This "medieval" wine is a blend of Chardonnay, Gamay and Pinot Noir, including the older Gamay Petit Grain and Pinot Fin varieties. The grapes were carefully harvested by hand, then foot-pressed, vinified and aged without sulfur dioxide and bottled by hand in spring.
